Job Description

WSP USA is currently initiating a search for a Deputy Area Manager- Operations in New York.

Position Summary:

  • Work for and assist the Area Manager on operational aspects of regional management.

  • Communicate with Area Managers on operational aspects of the business. Assist in developing effective solutions and monitoring success of the developed solutions.

  • Collaborate with the Area Manager (AM), Deputy Area Manager- Business Development, Finance Manager, Facilities Area Manager, Project Accounting Manager, Other Area Managers, and TEC Managers.

  • Oversee all NY Project Operations Manager (LPOM) duties.

Major Duties:

There are two overarching areas of operations and they include general office operational duties, and project operations.

General Operations Duties

  • Support the AM for all office analysis and reporting as necessary.

  • Prepare Period end, Quarterly or Bi-annual reports per the Regional Manager direction or as needed per corporate requirements.

  • Coordinate with Finance Manager and PA Manager to ensure proper financial data exchange.

  • Take necessary actions to improve cash flow.

  • Provide independent research and contribution to the betterment of Operations procedures.

  • Perform other duties as directed by the Area Manager.

NY Project Operations Manager Duties

  • Coordinate with Local Project Operations Manager (LPOM) to:

  • Ensure appropriate Project Reviews are being conducted in the region

  • Ensure Local Project Operations Managers are performing their duties

  • Ensure appropriate proactive project reviews are being conducted on high risk projects and any necessary follow up is done

  • Identify projects that are in distress and provide the oversight necessary to correct the issues

  • Develop recovery teams as necessary to correct unsatisfactory project performance

  • Ensure any needed corrective deficiencies identified in project audits are addressed

  • Ensure all aspects of Project Manager and Delivery Training are being conducted and the Project Delivery Handbook is being followed

  • Provide independent research and contribution to the betterment of Project Operations procedures

  • Perform reports and functions per the request of the Regional Project Operations Director Manager to ensure region to region consistency

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • BA/BS Degree in Engineering, Planning, Architecture, Business, or equivalent discipline

  • Held a Project Controls position for a major project or Project Manager for a major Project or other leadership role to have an understanding of Office management to assist in proactive resolution.

  • Strong proactive problem solving skills and communication skills are desired.

  • A strong understanding of regional elements including: project financials, team dynamics, client relationships, staffing and resource requirements, overhead elements, and performance expectations are required.

  • Strong people skills, openness, candor, and a helpful demeanor

  • Leadership skills that portray financial commitment, reliability, and accountability to operations
