About the Position:Located in the scenic Hudson River valley, only 50 miles from New York City, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a four-year academic institution, a nationally renowned historic site, and the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. The undergraduates, known as cadets, are commissioned as officers in the US Army upon graduation. You can watch them on parade or competing as intercollegiate athletes in a wide range of sports events. As a military installation, West Point is a small, self-contained city with housing for the military stationed here in support of the Academy, a Department of Public Works to maintain the roads, grounds and facilities, two libraries (Academic and Community), a military hospital, fire department, chapels, restaurants. West Point's 3,000 civilian employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theatre, the Hudson Valley's premiere performing arts center, and to recreational facilities such as an 18-hole Golf Course and Ski Slope.

Responsibilities

As an Instructor/Assistant Professor in the Department of Systems Engineering you will teach and oversee courses in accredited Systems Engineering and Engineering Management programs; conduct Data Analytics/Data Science research in Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, or related fields; attract and conduct funded research in areas relevant to the Army and the Department of Systems Engineering; report results in professional meetings, journal publications, and conferences; mentor junior faculty and support student activities outside of the classroom; and have the potential for leadership within the Department of Defense as a subject matter expert in Data Analytics/Data Science, and in professional societies representing the Department of Systems Engineering and the Academy.

Who May Apply: All US Citizens and non-citizens with allegiance to the United States.

This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service starting on or about 1 June 2018 and not to exceed 3 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term.

Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):Applicants will be evaluated on the following factors: 1) Academic accomplishment (an advanced degree (M.S. / Ph.D.) in Data Analytics/Data Science or a closely related field is strongly preferred); 2) Demonstrated professional experience in the field of Data Analytics/Data Science; 3) Ability to plan, develop, evaluate, and teach courses and programs in Systems Engineering/Engineering Management; 4) Ability to counsel and support the personal growth and development of cadets outside the classroom; 5) Ability to advise and mentor junior faculty on teaching, assessment, and scholarly development, especially in the fields of Data Analytics/Data Science; 6) Ability to conduct Data Analytics/Data Science research in areas relevant to the Army and the Department of Systems Engineering, to include managing the Data Science Center of Education; 7) Demonstrated potential for continued growth in the academic profession.
